There
are multiple formats for CD media and there is a format available for
most every need. Below are a few of the more common types of CD media
and their applications. For any CD media, make sure the device you'll
be using it in will support the format.
CD-R disc can be recorded to only once. Usually called "write-once"
media. It cannot be reused or erased once the disc is finalized.
CD-RW discs are "re-writeable" meaning you write to it,
erase and re-write to it many times over, just like a floppy or hard
disk.
A CD-ROM contains information that is "Read Only." It may
contain program installation files or other information and this data
cannot be altered.
CD-DA (Compact Disc Digital Audio)-a CD format for "Digital
Audio." Digital Audio CDs were first introduced by Sony. Ideal
for music performances and recording, they have an improved sound
fidelity that more closely resembles the sound source from which it
was recorded. Not all players are compatible with the CD-DA format.
